Application form - to be completed by your employer

The "Internship/Training Placement Plan" (DS 7002) must be completed by your host company's training supervisor. Do not, under any circumstances, fill out this form yourself.

Your employer can download the form directly from the CIEE website: DS7002 Intern.

On this website, your employer will also find all the necessary information on how to fill out the training plan.

Once this form is completed, your employer can either fax it or e-mail it to you. We do not need originals but electronic signatures are not accepted. The documents have to be downloaded, signed and scanned.

It is most important for the document to be legible which is why we require that they be filled out in Word.

A few guidelines for filling out the DS 7002:

Your employer must specify the exact dates: MONTH/DAY/YEAR of the beginning and the end of your training. These are the dates which will appear on your DS-2019.

Your employer must provide us with a precise and detailed training plan including:

  • supervisory and follow-up methods put in place by the company

  • knowledge/competences that you will acquire during your training and their correlation with your studies or professional experience

  • methods put in place by the company to facilitate your access to this knowledge

  • departments/services to which you will be assigned

  • tasks or activities for which you will be responsible

  • specific objectives

  • time devoted to each of these tasks.

Hospitality and Tourism Internships / Training: Given the unique nature of practical training within the fields of hospitality and tourism, the Department of State has included specific requirements for internships/training in these fields in the new regulations. Your employer needs to fill out the DS-7002 specific to the hospitality field instead of the DS-7002 Intern: DS7002 Hospitality & Tourism

Program Duration: In nearly all cases, participation in these fields will be limited to a maximum of 12 months. The only exception will be for those programs that focus strictly on management skills and could therefore be classified as a Business or Management, rather than as Hospitality or Tourism.

Rotations/Phases: To highlight the varied skill sets and functional areas to which an Intern/Trainee will be exposed, all hospitality and tourism programs of more than six months in duration need to include at least three different phases.

Tasks designated as "operational" (reception, service, maintenance, dry-cleaning, etc.) cannot exceed a maximum duration of about 1 month.

For all long-term internship programs, regardless of the sector, your employer must anticipate a rotation between different departments within the company or an evolution of the tasks that you will be performing.

  • Timeline

The countdown starts at the time when your application is complete and you receive a confirmation email from Parenthese. The quality of your application (in terms of thoroughness of documentation, appropriateness of program) directly impacts turnaround time. Incomplete or insufficiently detailed applications will be systematically put on hold and their processing will be delayed.

Please note that the follow-up of your application is done only via e-mail.

Normally, your application will require 2 to 3 weeks to be processed. In other words, you will receive your DS-2019 form and your SEVIS receipt in 2 to 3 weeks after receiving the confirmation email from Parenthese.

The minimum 2-week processing time (reception of your DS-2019 and Sevis receipt) is guaranteed with an additional acceleration fee. You may also choose the expedited service for the reception of your DS-2019 in 7 business days (9 business days if a site visit is necessary). If this turnaround time is not respected on our part, you will be reimbursed for the acceleration fee. Please note that there will be no reimbursement if the delay is caused by the employer.

If your host company needs to undergo a site visit from CIEE, you cannot pay the acceleration fees since the whole process will be longer. Please refer to the information in the "Your Employer" section.

You can count the processing times for your DS2019 & SEVIS as follows :

  • 7 business days = With Expedited Fees

  • 2 weeks = With acceleration Fees

  • 3 weeks = Without acceleration Fees

Please add 48 hours to these timeframes if an employer site visit is required.

You will receive your visa roughly 48 hours after your appointment at the embassy.

  • Follow-up of your application and telephone interview

Parenthese will keep you updated weekly on the status of your application. You will receive emails at least once a week, informing you of the advancement of your application.

We will also set up a telephone interview with you in order to assess your oral English ability.

    SEVIS

SEVIS, or the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, was implemented by the US Department of State in January 2003 and is the database in which your exchange visitor profile is recorded.

There is a non-reimbursable fee of £115 related to the maintenance of this database. The Sevis fee must be paid along with your program fees at the time you submit your application to Parenthese. You will receive your DS-2019 and your SEVIS receipt (I-797-C or I-901 form) simultaneoulsy.
